As a mother in the trenches of middle school, upper elementary, and lower elementary, I found myself on major burn-out and in need of some refreshment for my soul. This book claims to "expect something beautiful," and indeed, Laura delivers! By pointing mothers back to Scripture, Laura reminds us of the truly tremendous calling we have and how God doesn't just throw us out to do it on our own but actually gives us tools to succeed. As a mother of six, Laura uses her own experiences and humbly acknowledges her own need for Christ to walk her through the amazing, messy joys of motherhood. With additional encouragement, questions for reflection, Scripture to cherish, and carefully selected songs to soothe a weary soul, Expect Something Beautiful will revive you for each step of your own parenting journey. Laura's stories are relatable and often funny, but better than that are the timeless Scriptural truths she directs our gaze toward. I can honestly say that every chapter left me challenged, convicted, encouraged, and more hopeful. The suggestions at the end of each chapter for a song to listen to (there's even a Spotify playlist!), a book to read, a verse to meditate on, etc. are practical and don't feel like "one more thing to do" as study questions sometimes can. In short, I recommend this to all moms in every stage of mothering. Buy it for baby showers, for your daughters and daughters-in-law who are mothering your grandkids, for your friends. . .
